Decidim is free software for participatory democracy. Organisations and public institutions can run a platform for deliberation, proposals, voting, and co-design — a political network they operate themselves, not a page inside a commercial social network.
A UX and code revamp keeps assemblies usable: cleaner interface, a feature review, and the less visible work that keeps the codebase maintainable. Website: decidim.org. Docs: docs.decidim.org. Self-hosted instances (examples: decidim.hacktivism.ch, meta.decidim.org, decidim.barcelona).
Decidim runs on infrastructure institutions control—no single canonical host. The live platforms below are examples only; deploy your own with the generic docs.
Generic (Decidim project): docs.decidim.org.
Example instances (live):
| Instance | Notes |
|---|---|
| decidim.hacktivism.ch | one self-hosted deployment; setup docs document this instance only |
| meta.decidim.org | Decidim community meta-instance |
| decidim.barcelona | City of Barcelona |
Civic conversation on Facebook or X is still someone else's product: ranking, ads, and account bans sit between residents and the institutions that claim to listen.
Decidim is built for that process, not for a feed. Hosting it locally keeps proposals and votes off a behavioural advertising graph. The revamp targets a different failure mode: if the interface is opaque or the code is too hard to keep, cities slide back to the platforms they already know.
